How you pick up your car

Paros airport is in the south-west of the island, near the village of Aliki: about 11 km from Parikia port (15 minutes by car) and 20 km from Naoussa (about 25 minutes). When you land, the supplier meets you at the airport, sends you directions to their office, or sends a shuttle to take you there, and confirms which after booking. Add your flight number when you book so the supplier can follow any delay.

The car park in front of the terminal is small and may charge by the hour, so check the signs. If the supplier is meeting you there, agree beforehand where to meet if it is full, and who pays any parking. A new terminal and a longer runway are being built, with completion due in September 2028 at the time of writing.

The airport is also the closest pick-up for Pounta, the port for the Antiparos car ferry (7 km, about 10 minutes), and for the south-coast beaches at Aliki and Faragas.

Practical tips

  • Fuel before you return: an Avin and an ELINOIL are on the ring road about 1.5 to 2 km from the terminal, on the way in from Parikia.
  • Opening hours: the airport opens around its scheduled flights, not around the clock, so agree the return time with the supplier against your flight.
  • Antiparos: the car ferry leaves from Pounta, 7 km from the airport. Ask the supplier first whether the car may go on the ferry.

Driving rules in Greece

  • Speed limits: in towns the limit has been 30 km/h since 1 January 2026, and 50 km/h on roads with two or more lanes in each direction, on one-way roads with two or more lanes and on roads with a central divider. Outside towns it is 90 km/h, 110 km/h on expressways and 130 km/h on motorways. Signs can set other limits.
  • Alcohol: the limit is 0.5 g/l. It is 0.2 g/l for new drivers, and for motorcycle and moped riders.
  • Phones: hands-free only. Since the new traffic code of 2025, a first offence costs €350 and a 30-day licence suspension.
  • Helmets: compulsory on mopeds, motorcycles and quads, for the rider and the passenger.
  • In the car: a warning triangle, a first-aid kit and a fire extinguisher are compulsory. Check they're in the boot at pick-up.
  • Emergencies: call 112.

Places to visit by car

Distances from Paros.

  • Lefkes

    Lefkes

11 km, 15-20 minutes up the hill road. It is the highest of the inland villages, and many of its lanes are closed to cars, so leave the car at the car parks by the entrance and walk in. A marble-paved Byzantine path, over 1,000 years old, runs about 3.5 km from Lefkes down to Prodromos. If you walk it, you need a lift or the bus back up.
  • Marathi marble quarries

    Marathi marble quarries

6 km, about 10 minutes on the road towards Lefkes. From the signposted turn, a marble-paved path climbs the valley to the ancient galleries where the "lychnites" marble, named after the lamps the quarrymen worked by, was cut. There is little to see inside; if you go in, bring a torch and don't go alone.
  • Kolymbithres

    Kolymbithres

10 km, 15-20 minutes, on the west side of Naoussa bay. Its rocks are hollowed out like bathtubs, hence the name, which means "baptismal fonts". The free dirt car park above the rocks and the roadside are full by 11:00 in August.

  • Monastiri

    Monastiri

12 km, about 25 minutes, a few minutes beyond Kolymbithres, by the monastery of Agios Ioannis. The small car park at the end of the access road fills early; after about 11:30, park along the road.
  • Santa Maria

    Santa Maria

15 km, about 25 minutes, 5 km beyond Naoussa. A long, shallow sandy beach on the north-east coast with a sandy car park behind the dunes. It is exposed to the meltemi.

  • Golden Beach and New Golden Beach

Golden Beach and New Golden Beach

19 km, about 30 minutes, on the south-east coast. A long, wide sandy beach popular with windsurfers, with New Golden Beach just next to it. Parking is rarely a problem.

  • Faragas and Aliki

    Faragas and Aliki

14-15 km, about 20 minutes, on the south coast. On meltemi days the south-coast beaches are the usual shelter, and Faragas is usually calm.
  • Antiparos and its cave

    Antiparos and its cave

Pounta is 8.5 km away, 10-15 minutes. The car ferry crosses in about 7 minutes, every 20-30 minutes in summer and every 30-60 minutes in winter. It runs from about 06:15 until after midnight in summer, and until about 22:15 in winter. At the time of writing a car costs €7.30 one way and an adult €1.50, cash only, on board or at the port; you can't book ahead. The passenger boat from Parikia does not take cars. The cave is 8 km from Antiparos town on a paved road from the ferry dock, with a large car park, and about 411 steps lead some 85 m down. In 2026 it opened daily until the end of October, 10:00-16:00; entry was €6 with the folklore museum.
