How you pick up your car

Mykonos airport, run by Fraport Greece, sits on the edge of town: about 2.5 km by road from Fabrika, on the south side of Chora, 5-10 minutes by car. When you land, the supplier meets you, sends you directions to their office, or sends a shuttle to take you there, and confirms which after booking. Add your flight number when you book so the supplier can follow any delay.

Parking at the terminal is limited to a few free short-stay spaces opposite the building, on the departures side, and the airport publishes no long-stay tariff. So if the supplier is meeting you there, agree the exact spot beforehand. Having the car arranged pays off in July and August, when the queue at the taxi rank outside arrivals can take up to an hour.

The airport is also the closest pick-up for the south coast: Ornos, Platis Gialos, Psarou and Paradise are all under 5 km away.

Practical tips

  • Fuel before you return: a Shell and an ELINOIL sit side by side on the ring road about 2 km from the terminal. We found no petrol station open all night on the island, so fill up during the day before an early flight.
  • Winter hours: outside summer the airport keeps short hours (this season, for example, 07:00 to 18:30 on weekdays), so agree the hand-over time with the supplier if your flight is first or last of the day.
  • No Thursday flights this winter: from 19 November 2026 to 18 March 2027 the runway closes on Thursdays for works (except 24 and 31 December and 7 January). Plan pick-up and return on other days.

Driving rules in Greece

  • Speed limits: in towns the limit has been 30 km/h since 1 January 2026, and 50 km/h on roads with two or more lanes in each direction, on one-way roads with two or more lanes and on roads with a central divider. Outside towns it is 90 km/h, 110 km/h on expressways and 130 km/h on motorways. Signs can set other limits.
  • Alcohol: the limit is 0.5 g/l. It is 0.2 g/l for new drivers, and for motorcycle and moped riders.
  • Phones: hands-free only. Since the new traffic code of 2025, a first offence costs €350 and a 30-day licence suspension.
  • Helmets: compulsory on mopeds, motorcycles and quads, for the rider and the passenger.
  • In the car: a warning triangle, a first-aid kit and a fire extinguisher are compulsory. Check they're in the boot at pick-up.
  • Emergencies: call 112.

you can't take a car to Delos. Boats leave from the Old Port, from the small harbour opposite the church of Agios Nikolaos, several times a day in season.
