How you pick up your car
Mykonos airport, run by Fraport Greece, sits on the edge of town: about 2.5 km by road from Fabrika, on the south side of Chora, 5-10 minutes by car. When you land, the supplier meets you, sends you directions to their office, or sends a shuttle to take you there, and confirms which after booking. Add your flight number when you book so the supplier can follow any delay.
Parking at the terminal is limited to a few free short-stay spaces opposite the building, on the departures side, and the airport publishes no long-stay tariff. So if the supplier is meeting you there, agree the exact spot beforehand. Having the car arranged pays off in July and August, when the queue at the taxi rank outside arrivals can take up to an hour.
The airport is also the closest pick-up for the south coast: Ornos, Platis Gialos, Psarou and Paradise are all under 5 km away.
Distances from the airport
- Mykonos Town (Chora)3 km, 5-10 min
- Platis Gialos3 km, 5-10 min
- Ornos4 km, 5-10 min

- New Port (Tourlos)5 km, 5-10 min
- Ano Mera6 km, 10-15 min
- Agios Sostis8 km, 10-15 min
- Kalafatis10 km, 15-25 min
By road, without stops. Allow more time in summer.
Practical tips
- Fuel before you return: a Shell and an ELINOIL sit side by side on the ring road about 2 km from the terminal. We found no petrol station open all night on the island, so fill up during the day before an early flight.
- Winter hours: outside summer the airport keeps short hours (this season, for example, 07:00 to 18:30 on weekdays), so agree the hand-over time with the supplier if your flight is first or last of the day.
- No Thursday flights this winter: from 19 November 2026 to 18 March 2027 the runway closes on Thursdays for works (except 24 and 31 December and 7 January). Plan pick-up and return on other days.
Driving rules in Greece
- Speed limits: in towns the limit has been 30 km/h since 1 January 2026, and 50 km/h on roads with two or more lanes in each direction, on one-way roads with two or more lanes and on roads with a central divider. Outside towns it is 90 km/h, 110 km/h on expressways and 130 km/h on motorways. Signs can set other limits.
- Alcohol: the limit is 0.5 g/l. It is 0.2 g/l for new drivers, and for motorcycle and moped riders.
- Phones: hands-free only. Since the new traffic code of 2025, a first offence costs €350 and a 30-day licence suspension.
- Helmets: compulsory on mopeds, motorcycles and quads, for the rider and the passenger.
- In the car: a warning triangle, a first-aid kit and a fire extinguisher are compulsory. Check they're in the boot at pick-up.
- Emergencies: call 112.
Places to visit by car
Distances from Mykonos.

Ano Mera
8 km, about 15 minutes. The main village inland, with the monastery of Panagia Tourliani, founded in 1542.
Armenistis lighthouse
7 km, about 15 minutes, past Agios Stefanos on the north-west tip of the island. The lighthouse has stood there since 1891, and it's a popular place to watch the sunset.
Agios Sostis and Panormos
7-8 km, about 15 minutes, side by side on the north coast. Agios Sostis has no sunbeds or beach bars, just a taverna.Fokos
12 km, about 20 minutes, via Ano Mera. The road is paved most of the way, but the last stretch to the beach is unpaved. There's a single taverna and little else, so take water.
Kalafatis and Lia
12 km, about 20 minutes, via Ano Mera, on the east coast. Kalafatis has a large unpaved car park.
Elia and Kalo Livadi
10-11 km, about 15 minutes, on the south-east coast. Elia has a large car park, partly paved.
Paradise and Super Paradise
5-7 km, 10-15 minutes, the two beaches best known for their beach clubs. Paradise has a paved car park; Super Paradise is down the steep road.
Psarou and Platis Gialos
about 4 km, 10 minutes, next to each other on the south coast. Psarou's parking is scarce; Platis Gialos is where the caiques along the south coast leave from.
Delos, by boat
you can't take a car to Delos. Boats leave from the Old Port, from the small harbour opposite the church of Agios Nikolaos, several times a day in season. The crossing takes about 30 minutes, and boats don't sail in strong winds. The archaeological site has its own ticket, €20 in the 2026 season. Park at the Old Port car park.
Questions and answers
Is Mykonos airport open at night?
In summer the airport lists itself as open around the clock. In winter it keeps short hours, opening at 06:00 or 07:00 and closing between 18:30 and 22:00 depending on the day, so check your flight.
Where can I fill up before returning the car?
The nearest stations are a Shell and an ELINOIL on the ring road about 2 km from the terminal, and an EKO about 2.5 km away on the road to Platis Gialos.
Are there flights every day in winter?
Not on Thursdays from 19 November 2026 to 18 March 2027, when the runway closes all day for works. 24 and 31 December and 7 January are exempt.
Are there toll roads on Mykonos?
No. Distances are short: Mykonos Town is 3 km from the airport and Kalafatis, the furthest beach on the list above, 10 km.
