How you pick up your car

Piraeus, Greece's largest port, is 11 km south-west of Syntagma: about 15 minutes on clear roads, 20-30 minutes in normal traffic. Ferries leave from numbered gates, and walking from one end of the port to the other can take an hour.

  • E1-E3: the Dodecanese, Crete and the North Aegean islands.
  • E6, E7 and E9: the Cyclades (E9 also Samos and Ikaria).
  • E8: the Saronic islands (Aegina, Agistri, Poros, Hydra, Spetses).
  • E5: the metro and suburban railway station, where the port's free shuttle bus starts.

Gates change with the season and the operator, so go by the one on your ticket.

The supplier meets you when your ship docks, sends you directions to their office, or sends a shuttle to take you there, and confirms which after booking. Tell the supplier your ship and gate number when you book. A car park with about 700 spaces is near gates E7 and E8. Port traffic is heavy in summer, so allow extra time if you return the car here before a sailing.
